As John visually scanned the friends and family in Jillâs back yard, he noticed an elderly lady entering through the gate with a walker. He immediately recognized her as Mrs. Booth his and Jillâs grade five teacher. Jill had thought of everything. John was so happy to see her. He left the front where he was standing to run over and personally assist her to her seat. They greeted each other with a hug, and he thanked her so much for coming to his and Jillâs special day.
âI would never miss this day of yours.â She replied. âI always had a feeling about you too. Yes, even in grade five.â
John escorted her to the seats and ensured that Mrs. Booth was right up front along with his parents. This was done for three reasons. One, she used a walker and with no one in front it would be easier for her. Two, he had no idea how good her hearing was, so he wanted to ensure she could hear everything for her enjoyment. But the third reason was his primary one. He wanted this special teacher of his to be seated in a place of honor. He knew Mrs. Booth could read him like a book and was certain she understood the true significance of him seating her at the front.
At the stroke of four in the afternoon, Jill walked down the grass aisle towards John, and everyone stood as the bride walked down the aisle pathway in the back yard of her parents Point Grey home. And once she arrived at the front, the marriage commissioner began the ceremony. It was a short but very nice ceremony that everyone, guests, family and, of course the bride and groom loved.
John now clearly recalled the very words used by the commissioner when talking about the wedding bands. It was odd to John that during the ceremony he could not retain the words at all, and now he was recalling them verbatim. The commissioner gave a great speech about the uniting during marriage, the significance of the gold and the rings making the wedding bands.
He went on to say: âThe ring is an ancient and sacred symbol of love. Gold is a pure metal that is therefore used to signify purity. As gold is a pure metal, so should your hearts and marriage be.â The commissioner continued on by saying; âA ring is a loop with no beginning and no end. It is round like the sun, like the moon, like the eye, like arms that embrace one another. It is a circle; for love that is given comes back round again, sometimes tenfold too. Your rings are precious not only because of the purity of the metal, but because you wear them with love and respect. They symbolize your commitment in marriage. They remind you of who you are, where youâve been, and where youâre going. As you wear them through time, they will reflect on not only who you are as individuals, but also who you are as a couple.
